Having had some sucsess through March its great to see the sea temperature start to rise, 10 degrees and with it the Bass becomming more active. Its a great time of year, the arrival of the swallows and the sea pinks flowering always make me think of one thing – Bass !!
High pressure and easterly winds havnt been ideal but theres always somewhere that will produce and with the hours i put in im always confident of some sucsess, picking the right tides and conditions as ever.
And so bumping down a tt shad rigged on a gamakstu 21 gram bottom knocker i was feeling as though it wasnt my day having just lost a fish, but the tide was hitting the sweet spot and sure enough a good knock and it was fish on !. The fish stayed solid in the flow and it was a short while before i got a glimpse of a good looking fish, 62cm result, a few shots and then the pleasure of getting her back in the water watching my prize as ever with some kind of awe..
A few days later the wind finally shifted round to a south westerly and i had a chance to fish one of my low water marks, great conditions nice and overcast and with some excitement i started searching the shallow rocky ground with a ima komomo sf 125 and sure enough a slice of North Devon silver jumped on it and scraped hard for its size to the shallows.
